Blackboard Support
Blackboard is a learning content management system, part of a project called the 'U of T portal' with extensive capabilities for teaching and learning online. U of T Scarborough Faculty currently have the choice to use Blackboard or the Intranet for teaching their courses: both are accessible to Scarborough students. But Blackboard is really the preferred Learning Management System in the sense that it has a more extensive feature set, and future usage and support is being standardized around this system across the three campuses. Please take a moment to browse the web resources on this site. If you don't find the answer within a few minutes, please contact campus Blackboard support, Daryl Weade and Brian Sutherland, at [blackboard@utsc.utoronto.ca], we will be happy to help!
Getting Online: Students - Faculty
In order to access the Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS), you will need to have a UTORid.
If you use the campus wireless network, you already have a UTORid. If not, you can use the online activation form or visit either the Scarborough campus computing help desk (B-487) or the Registrar's office to obtain help. More info...
Log in: Open up a browser, and type in the following URL: http://portal.utoronto.ca/
You can also click the portal link in the upper right corner of the university home page
Browse Your Courses: After you log in, your current courses should be listed on your home page.
If for some reason a course isn't listed, it could be because:
1) your instructor(s) haven't made the course 'available' yet (might not be using Blackboard)
2) your course isn't offered this session
3) you may not be registered in it in ROSI
4) you registered within the last 24 hours, so Blackboard hasn't been updated yet
5) your UTORid has a duplicate entry: you are logging in with one set of credentials and for some reason the portal recognizes another
Visit Student Help, created by the Centre for Teaching Support and Innovation (CTSI), they have further information about the use of Blackboard.
More of a YouTube learner? Browse this series of YouTube Blackboard Student FAQ Videos produced by the UTM Library staff. Here's the first, accessing Blackboard:
For help in person, please contact the Blackboard System Administrators at Scarborough campus, blackboard@utsc.utoronto.ca, or drop by the student help desk in BV 487 or the Information Commons.
All faculty require a UTORid login account to access Blackboard. To obtain your UTORid, request a letter "Getting Online at U of T" from Human Resource Services. This will reserve a UTORid for you. With the secret activation code which appears on the letter, you can activate your UTORid online, set a password, and request an @utoronto.ca email address. Your UTORid will also allow you to access the Scarborough campus wireless service. The following video illustrates the how to activate your UTORid.
Log in: 24h or so after activating your UTORid, open up a browser, and type in the following URL: http://portal.utoronto.ca , then click 'Login'.
This brings you to the Blackboard weblogin screen.

Edit Your Courses: After you log in, Instructors should see the courses that they are teaching as this information is provided by the Repository of Student Information, generally known as 'ROSI'. If not, your department's Undergraduate Secretary, Registrar or Chair needs to update your course workload information in ROSI. Updates will appear the following day in the Blackboard LMS just as they do for the Scarborough Intranet.
For Faculty problems accessing Blackboard or enquiries about designing a course, please contact [blackboard@utsc.utoronto.ca]
